Tips to keep your kids warm this fall

As summer starts to come to an end, every parent is trying to figure out the best ways to keep their children warm during fall. Fall can get particularly windy and the cold breezes aren’t going to keep your children healthy. Help them avoid colds by keeping your kids wrapped up warm before winter hits.

Of course, dressing for fall doesn’t mean that you need to take the fun out of your child’s closet. There are many ways your child can have a fashionable and functional sense of dress during the colder months, without feeling like you need to put them in dull colors to keep them warm.

Things to consider

When you’re considering fall clothing for your kids, there are a few things you should watch out for:

  • Clothing that can protect them from the elements (wind, rain, etc.).
  • Clothing that can stand up to the typical wear and tear that is experienced when kids are out and about.
  • Clothing that is easy for your children to put on and take off when they’re indoors or outdoors.
  • Clothing that allows room for movement, so they can play and not feel like they’re waddling around like penguins.

If you take all of this into consideration, you will easily find the perfect fall closet for your little one.

Layering your child’s clothing

The best thing about fall is that it’s so easy to layer clothing so that your child is warmer. The first layer of clothing that your child is wearing is a base layer, it should be form fitting to allow for movement and to help them regulate their own temperatures. Things like long underwear and vests are perfect here.

The next layer is about insulating your child to keep them warm. Think about leggings or trousers and jumpers that will fit well under other clothing. Leggings for toddlers, especially, would be a good call here. Toddlers have a habit of pulling at their clothing, so even if they manage to get the first layer off, your fall fashion toddler girl or boy will still be covered up.

Finally, the top layer. Consider cute fall dresses for toddlers, particularly those that are a long sleeve dress. Or thick jumpers to go over the thinner one that you would have used during the second layer of clothing for your little one.

Fashionable but practical

As we mentioned, just because you’re being functional with your toddler or young child’s clothing doesn’t mean you can’t be fashionable. Cute fall dresses for toddlers are perfect in the fall climate, because they are thick but still come in a range of colors and styles. Leggings for toddlers, as well, don’t need to be dark colors just because we’re in the darker months.

A long sleeve dress or a long sleeve jumper will go a long way in keeping your child warm on top of other layers of clothing – and because they’ll have another layer on underneath, they could remove them if it got too hot.
